The residence
Cayuga Drive is the hillside street of Foothills Estates — the quiet estate pocket of Collingwood where the lots run large, the trees are sixty years tall and the back fences open onto green space. Behind this mid-century façade sits nearly 6,900 square feet across three storeys, built around a soaring three-storey atrium that once held an indoor pool: a rare canvas for a buyer, architect or builder with a vision, minutes from the Winter Club, the University and downtown.

Set on a premium hillside lot in Foothills Estates — the estate enclave of Collingwood — this is one of the largest homes in Calgary's north-west inner city: three full storeys above grade, 6,858 square feet of living space by RMS measure, plus a further 1,990 square feet developed below. The original 1965 residence was extensively transformed in the 1980s, when the three-storey atrium and the third-level bonus room were added.
The main level lays out around that atrium. A formal dining room faces the street; a living room with a bay window and a central family room with a stone fireplace both open through patio doors to the atrium floor; a galley kitchen with a breakfast nook does the same. A main-floor bedroom or den sits beside the laundry room, and an open staircase rises from the front entry.
Upstairs, four bedrooms of varying sizes share three full bathrooms, including a five-piece primary ensuite, and a very large office takes up a substantial part of the second-level footprint. A spiral staircase climbs from the atrium to the third level, where a bonus room under a vaulted wood ceiling looks south and west over the city.
The lower level adds a family room, a billiards room, a recreation room, a bathroom, the utility room and generous storage. The atrium itself — today a vast, sky-lit room three storeys high — was built as an indoor pool; the pool has been mothballed, braced and covered over, and the space is ready to become whatever the next owner imagines.
Outside, the home backs onto a green belt, with a double attached garage and dedicated RV parking on the east side. The Calgary Winter Club is a short walk, Confederation Park and Nose Hill are minutes away, and the University of Calgary and Foothills Medical Centre are a short drive west. Full listing details, professional photography, film and a 3D tour are on the way.

Worth knowing
The hillside pocket around Cayuga and Collingwood Drive was laid out with the largest lots in Collingwood, and the estate homes along it have never been typical of the north-west.
Cayuga, Chippewa, Cheyenne, Cherokee, Chilcotin, Cree — the estate streets of Collingwood and neighbouring Charleswood were all named for Indigenous nations when the area was developed in the 1950s and 60s.
The Calgary Winter Club on 14 Street NW — pools, ice, courts, fitness and a family dining room — is one of the city's private family athletic clubs, and it is minutes on foot from Cayuga Drive.
The long valley park south of the community was built for Canada's 1967 centennial, with the Confederation Park golf course, cross-country ski trails in winter and the Lions Festival of Lights along 14 Street every December.
Directly north across John Laurie Boulevard, Nose Hill Park is one of the largest urban parks in North America — eleven square kilometres of native grassland with views across the whole city.
Collingwood School (K–6) sits on Collingwood Drive, Senator Patrick Burns (7–9) is in neighbouring Charleswood, and William Aberhart High School is a few minutes south on 14 Street.
The University of Calgary, Foothills Medical Centre and the Alberta Children's Hospital are all a short drive along Northmount or John Laurie — the reason so many academics and physicians live here.
Brentwood station on the Red Line is a few minutes west, with Brentwood Village and its shops beside it; downtown is a fifteen-minute drive down 14 Street.
Collingwood, Charleswood and Brentwood share the Triwood Community Association, with its arena, curling rink, tennis courts and community programs at 2244 Chicoutimi Drive.
South-facing slopes, mature trees and lot sizes that are hard to find inside the city mean that original Foothills Estates homes are increasingly being renovated or rebuilt as modern estate residences.

Collingwood sits on the north-west hillside between Nose Hill and Confederation Park — a 1950s and 60s community of wide lots and tall spruce, with the Foothills Estates enclave along Cayuga and Collingwood Drive holding the largest properties and the best of the south-facing views.
The Calgary Winter Club is a short walk, Confederation Park and its golf course are minutes south, and Nose Hill Park is directly across John Laurie Boulevard. The University of Calgary, Foothills Medical Centre and Brentwood LRT are ten minutes west; downtown is fifteen minutes down 14 Street.
